etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 GMC Terrain

Today, in our 2015 GMC Terrain, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Etrailer.com's class three two-inch trailer hitch receiver. It's mostly hidden behind the bumper, so you really only see the receiver tube and a small section of the cross tube here at the receiver tube. There is a cover located here at the back that does need to be removed, but since it is a nice factory curve, it looks like it was supposed to be that way. This is a class three two inch by two inch receiver, so it's going to be great for all of your towing needs. Whether you're putting a bike rack or cargo carrier in it for your accessories or you're going to pull a trailer, camper, or a boat behind you, this hitch will be able to handle it.It uses a five-eighths inch hitch pinning clip. Now, one doesn't come included with the hitch, but you can pick one up here at Etrailer.com. It features plate-style safety chain loops located on the bottom with a fairly large opening that should accommodate just about every shape, size, and style of safety chain. It features a 350-pound tongue weight, which is the force going down on top of the receiver. With such a high tongue weight, you should have no problem putting on a four-bike rack carrier and loading up four bikes to go to the trail, or it's also enough for you to put a camper on the back and support that as well. more

Today on our 2015 GMC Terrain we'll be installing the CURT class two 1-1/4" receiver tube hitch, part number C12291. Here's what our hitch is going to look like once it's installed. This is a really nice hitch visually because the only thing truly exposed is our receiver tube and chain hold downs, while still remaining very accessible because the receiver tube is almost flush with the end of the bumper, so we whether worry about anything sticking out, banging our shins on it. Structurally, it's a square tube design with a fully welded construction. Our hitch is rated for 350 pounds of tongue weight and 3,500 pounds of towing capability. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. more

As you can see, we cannot reinstall the rear fascia as our hitch sits in that place, but all in all really all we can see is the receiver tube and the chain hold downs, which makes it really nice that we don't have a hitch sticking out. It also is recessed underneath the bumper so we don't have to worry about hitting our leg or shin on it. Visually it's a really nice hitch. Along with the nice black powder coating we've got a square crosstube design with a fully welded hitch. more
