Best 2010 Toyota Tacoma Trailer Wiring Options

Today we're going to be taking a look at the best wiring options for your 2010 Toyota Tacoma. First we've got the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number C55513, and we've also got the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number 118496. Curt also has a wiring harness available with the 5-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, which is going to be good if you've got a trailer with surge brakes and you need that reverse light circuit, and that one's going to be part number C56513. The biggest difference that we're going to see between these two wiring harnesses is the amperage ratings on the circuits. On the Curt, it has a 3-amp rating on the turn and brake light circuits, and a 5-amp rating on the taillight circuit. On the Tekonsha, it has a 2.1-amp rating on the brake and turn circuits, but a 7.5 rating on the taillight circuit. The higher that amperage rating is, the more lights it's going to be able to power without causing a problem in the wiring harness. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Today on 2010 Toyota Tacoma we're going to install part number 118496 from Tow Ready. First thing we'll need to do is go ahead and lower tailgate and we have to remove both tail lights. There's a bolt on top and bottom light to remove and then we can go ahead and unsnap the tail light from the plastic connectors behind it. Pull down from top into bottom, rock it back and forth until it pops loose. Then we'll disconnect the wire harness push down and you can disconnect it from the tail light. We'll go ahead and put the tail light aside for now. We're done with our driver's side, let's go ahead and repeat the same process over on the passenger's side. Alright now at this point we can go ahead and start installing the wire harness. more
