Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Installation - 2017 Ford Focus- Video
Hi there Focus owners today on your 2017 Ford Focus we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Blue Ox base plates. And this is what our baseplate looks like when it's installed. We do currently have the arms in place where you would attach your tow bar to but if you're going to drive the vehicle around town you can pull the pin and twist these and they can be removed, so you can have a cleaner look here at the front. When you are ready to flat tow you can then just insert these in place push and twist until they click in, and now we've got our attachment points for our tow bar just to the inside of that, we've got our attachment for our safety cables. And just below on the driver's side where the safety cable attaches, you've got a mounting point for your breakaway switch. Towards the center of our baseplate, we've got two bars that come out and that's going to give us an attachment point for our electrical connector, so you can put a six pole connector up here really easily, and it bolts right up to it. more

Our key components of our flat towing setup consists of our base plate, and that's going to be the key attachment point to our vehicle's frame allowing us to attach our next component which is going to be our tow bar and this attaches to our motor home, and then to the base plate attached to our car. We're now going to have our safety chains. These are going to keep the vehicle attached to the motor home if the tow bar we're to become disconnected Then next we're going to have our diode wiring. more

Hi there focus owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the best flat tow options for your 2013 Ford Focus. There's five main components you need to flat tow your Focus. You'll need your tow bar, which is the connection point between your motor home and your vehicle, your base plate, which provides a connection point where you'll attach your tow bar to your vehicle, your safety cables, which is a supplementary connection between the two, your diode wiring, which takes all the lighting signals from your motor home and transfers them to your vehicles -people behind you will know your intentions- and your braking system on your vehicle, which will assist it braking in addition to your motor home, so you can come to a safe stop. Now additionally on your Focus, you will need a battery disconnect switch as to get it into tow mode. You do have to disconnect the battery, but you're going to need a power supply for your braking system, so a battery disconnect will allow you to have that power for your braking system and disconnect the rest of the vehicle, so you can flat tow it properly.For our tow bar, we're using Roadmaster's Falcon 2, and this is a perfectly fine tow bar for your Focus. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Ford Focus we're gonna be installing Roadmaster's EZ5 Base Plate, part number RM-524430-5.This is what our base plate's gonna look like when it's installed. As you can see it's well hidden inside of our grill. You're really only gonna see the safety chain loop sticking out. The rest of our attachment's gonna be completely hidden behind the bumper. Your connection points are gonna be recessed here, and when you're ready to use them you can insert the pins here. They'll slide in, twist, until it locks into place. more

Speaker 1: Today on this 2017 Ford Focus we're going to be having a look at and showing you how to install the Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit, part number DM9519324.Here's what our base plate looks like installed with our removal arms disconnected. Now what's great about this is it will maintain a clean look on the front of our Focus when we're not flat towing it behind our motor home. This base plate will serve as the attachment point to your motor home and will work with most tow bars on the market. The way you attach the removal arms, you can simply twist out your plug here, we'll take our arm insert it with this tab horizontally, twist it 90 degrees, and we'll use our clevis pin here to lock it into place. Now we can't twist it to remove it. Then we'll simply repeat the same process on the other side of the vehicle. more

Keep in mind, for a complete safe flat-tow setup, you're gonna need a base plate, tow bar, tow bar wiring, and a braking system.Here's what our base plate is gonna look like once we have it installed. Now, I do want to mention that the breakaway switch, as well as this electrical connector, are not included in our kit. But, they are gonna give us a spot to mount those things. Our base plate is gonna serve as the purpose to where we cannot our tow bar up, so we can safety flat tow our Focus. It's gonna take a lot of strain and stress off of the front suspension, and more evenly distribute that towing force, so it doesn't tear anything up.Whenever we're not towing, the arms are gonna sit far enough back to where it's really not gonna be a distracting thing on the front. more

Speaker 1: Roadmaster EZ4 base plate kit with removable arms, part number RM-524430-4.So here's what our base plate looks like when it's fully installed. It is going to allow us to flat tow our Focus down the road behind our motor home safely and securely. I do want to mention that the breakaway switch and the wiring, they're not included. But they do have a bracket so that you can mount your breakaway switch as well as any wiring that you may have. The nice thing about the EZ4 base plate is if we pull on this ring right here, we can rotate the arm and pull it out and it's going to be a lot less noticeable when we're not flat towing our vehicle.Now also right on the outside, we're going to hae this loop here so we can attach our safety chains, which is going to make it a lot easier than having to try to worry about finding a spot and they're not going to interfere with connecting the tow bar itself. Our base plate's also going to have a bracket right here. more

Here's what our base plate's going to look like once you get it installed. As you can see with the removable arm design, we're not leaving or really changing the overall look of the vehicle with a big cross bar or big arms that hang out.Now when ready for use, we have our removable arms. You can see our tow bar's actually going to attach right to that pin location there. So all we'll need to do is slide it in and rotate it. more

Today on our 2015 Ford Focus we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit with removable arms, part number RM-524443-5. Here's what it looks like once it's installed. As you can see, it's got a nice black powder-coated finish. It's going to come with a bracket to mount either your 4 flat 00:00:26 in the center here, or you can use a 4 pole or a 5 pole, or you can switch it out to use a 7 pole without the adapter. It's got your safety chain hook connections, and it does have a bracket to mount your breakaway switch. The breakaway switch doesn't come with the kit; that's included with your braking system. When you're ready to take these off, you can just pull back the spring-loaded clip, turn it, and it slips out. more

Here's what the base plate's going to look like installed on our vehicle. As you can see, we're not adding a whole lot to the car. It's pretty low-vis. We're going to have our connection points for our removable arms on each side here via round holes. Had to cut our fascia right here on each side to accommodate for it. more

On this 2012 Ford Focus, we're going to review, and install the Blue Ox baseplate kit, part number BX2633. All right, this is what the baseplate looks like once installed in the Ford Focus. Everything is pretty well tucked in behind the grill. The only thing that really sticks out past the grill is a safety cable, or safety chain loops right here, and also a couple of prongs for your electrical. This is one of the tabs right here, it can only go in one way. Put it in this part where it's horizontal. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Installation - 2013 Ford Focus- Video
Today on our 2013 Ford Focus we'll be installing the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit With Removable Arms, part number BX2633. Let's go over the operation of the removable arms. The removable arms have a spring-loaded lock that will line up with the grooves in the base plate. Line it up, push it in to collapse the spring, and rotate it until it locks in place. Then we can hook our tow bar directly up to our removable arms. Then, once you're finished towing your vehicle, we can go ahead and remove them by pulling back on the ring, collapsing the spring, rotating it, and removing it from the base plate. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Installation - 2010 Ford Focus- Video
Alright, today on this 2010 Ford Focus, were going to install part number BX2199 from Blue Ox. To start our install, we got to remove the front bumper cover, starting with these four pushpins right here. Alright, now we can remove the grill assembly. Okay, to remove the grill, you have to pull it straight out. We start from the end and work our way towards the center. Next, remove the headlights, one, two, three fasteners. more
