etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit Installation - 2018 Ford Explorer- Video
Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today, we're taking a look and installing the etrailer Base Plate on our 2018 Ford Explorer. Now there's five main components when flat towing your Explorer that are gonna be required. Now the first one is gonna be the base plate, which is gonna attach to the frame of the vehicle, creating a nice structural support for your tow bar to be able to connect from your base plate to the hitch on the RV. Now going along with that, we have our safety chains. And just in case of an accidental disconnect, it's still gonna keep everything attached and the mounting points are already on the base plate for you. more

So before we get too carried away talking about the base plate, I figured it'd be beneficial just to kind of refresh ourselves and touch base on the main components that we're gonna need to flat tow our Ford down the road in the first place. The main components are gonna consist of five different things. So first one being your base plate, and what that's gonna do is provide us with a solid and reliable attachment point, that way we can hook our tow bar up. This is what our base plate looks like when it's installed. As you can see, it's completely hidden behind the fascia. It's going to be one of five main components in a flat tow setup. The other four are going to be your tow bar, your safety cables, your wiring, and your braking system.The MX Base Plate is compatible with all Roadmaster tow wires that are hitch-mounted. Keep in mind that the easy hook safety cables that come with the Sterling tow bars are not compatible. more

This is what our base plate looks like when it's installed. This is going to allow you to hook up to your RV and properly tow your vehicle.These are going to be your safety chain hookups, and it's going to have a low profile look when not in use. It's going to come with covers or caps that we'll slide in to keep moisture from getting inside of the holes. When you're ready to use it, you're going to have removable arms. You simply slide them into place, turn them until they lock in. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Installation - 2003 Ford Explorer- Video
Today on the 2003 Ford Explorer, we're going to show you the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, part number BX2160. This is what the base plate looks like when it's installed on our Explorer. You can see there's not much to it, basically the parts that you use come through this opening right here. These loops right here are for your safety cables or chains. This is a custom fit for the vehicle and it's all wrapped up in power coat finish. This is a fixed point here, these points are non removable. We have one less part to lose. The tow bar goes directly to it and you're good to go. A couple things to know about this is that the distance between your brackets will be 18" so this will work with the Blue Ox Adventa, Alladin, Alpha, and Allure tow bars. more

Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit Installation - 2010 Ford Explorer- Video
Today on our 2010 Ford Explorer, we're going to take a look at, and show you how to install, the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit with the removable arms. The part number is 4405-1. Here's what the base plate looks like once we get it installed. As you can see, it's going to give us our mounting location right up front here whether we're using a quick disconnect or a direct bolt-on tow bar. We'll have those here to where we can get to them when we need them. The nice thing about this is, it does have the detachable arm, so we can remove these when not in use. With this application, we did leave that little lower lip on. more
