Kuat Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek nv22B- Video
Today on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we're going to be test fitting the Kuat NV 2.0 bike rack, part number NV22G. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. The first one I like to show off is that fact that this can tilt away from the vehicle with the bike still attached. To do that, you hold onto the bike rack, come up to this latch on the passenger side, pull down like so, just gently let it down, and now we have access to our rear hatch to get whatever we need with plenty of space on both sides to do so. Go ahead and lift that back into position. How the bike is attached to the rack, we're going to have two points of contact with no frame contact at all. more

Today on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek we're going to be test fitting the Yakima HoldUp 2 bike rack for 2 inch hitches, part number Y02443. Now the most important feature about this bike rack is it's ability to tilt away from the vehicle with the bike still attached. To do that, there's going to be a red knob up here at the front. This has the capacity to carry up to 4 bikes or 2 bikes if you take off the extension. We already have a bike installed on the rack. To do that, you want to hold on the bike rack, never the bike. There's a handle at the front here, which is pretty nice because some of the other bike racks that do this, their handle is off to the side and it makes it a little bit awkward to try to lower it. more

I've already got it loaded up on the Crosstrek just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it's going to secure our bikes. It actually secures our bikes in three spots. We have wheel straps for the front cradle and the back cradle here. We have, for our down tube, a cradle going over that and keeping our bike in place. more

Kuat Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek- Video
Today on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek. We'll be doing a test fit on the Kuat Transfer 2-bike rack and 3-bike rack. That's part number TS02G for the 2-bike rack, and part number TS03G for the 3-bike rack. Now the only difference between the 2-bike rack and the 3-bike rack is of course the extra cradles and about 10". Just keep that in mind when making your selection. I've already got it loaded up on the Subaru just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it secures our bikes. It actually secures our bikes in two spots. more

Today on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek we'll be doing a test fit on the Kuat Transfer 3-bike rack. That's part number TS03G. Now I've already got it loaded up just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it's going to hold our bikes. It actually secures our bike in two spots. We have this large wheel hook going over our front wheel in front of our brakes, or our fork, whatever comes first, putting down pressure into our front wheel cradle. Then in the back we just have a wheel strap going over and back into itself, and ratcheting down and keeping that in place. One of the greatest features about this bike rack is it has the ability to tilt away so we can gain better access to our rear hatch. more

Today on this 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek we're going to be test fitting the Kuat NV 4 Bike Platform Rack, part number N105-107. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. The first feature I like to show off is the fact that it can tilt away from the vehicle with the bike still attached. To do that, there's this silver handle on the passenger side here. You're going to want to pull that out, like so, and holding onto the bike rack, let it gently come forward and with that we have access to our rear hatch to get anything we need. To put the bike rack back into position, just simply lift up and when you hear that click, it's locked into place. How the bike is actually attached to the rack, you're going to have two points of contact, we're going to have a wheel hook up at the front here and a wheel strap towards the rear. more

Today on this 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we're going to be test fitting the Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Rack, part number S64665. We already have a bike attached to the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look at it and show off some of the features. How the bike is actually to the vehicle, we're going to have 3 points of contact with only 1 point of contact being your frame, and that's going to be the hook up here, which is padded so your bike will not get scratched up when it's being installed, and then there's wheel straps on both the front and rear wheels. Let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. Start with the wheel straps first. Now, when you loosen up the frame hook, you want to make sure you hold on to the bike at all times so it doesn't go falling forward into the vehicle. You'll see this gray button here. more

You come to the end here with this gray handle, push in, holding onto the bike rack, let it come down, and now we have access to the rear hatch. To put it back into position, again, going by the bike rack, never holding onto the bike, lift up. You will hear that click and now it is back into place. Our first feature is the fact that this can actually tilt away from the vehicle with the bike still attached, which is pretty unique for a hanging style bike rack. To do that, we have this black handle on the side, holding onto the bike rack pull that out, let it tilt forward. With the bike rack in this position we have full access to our rear hatch to get whatever we need. You can do this with all four bikes attached. Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. How this bike actually attaches to the rack, we are going to have four points of contact with the bike's frame. We are going to have three straps up at the top here and one off to the side and that is going to serve as an anti-sway strap to keep the bike from going too far back and forth, possibly hitting the bike rack or the bikes in front of it. Let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. With the bike rack in this position, measuring from the bumper to this edge here, we have have added about 40 inches to the rear of the vehicle. Now for close quarters situations such as parking, these arms do fold down. more

Today on this 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we're going to be testing the Curt Premium 4 Bike Rack, part number C18064. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. The first feature to show off is how the arms themselves actually bend inward towards the end and that will accommodate different size bikes. To attach the bike to the rack, there's going to be 3 points of contact on your bike's frame. We're going to have 2 straps up at the top here, and one off to the side, and that's going to act as an added sway strap to keep the bike from moving too far back and forth, possibly hitting the bike rack where the bike's in front of it. Let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. Now with the bike rack in this position, measuring from the bumper, we've added about 36 inches to the rear of our vehicle. more

Today on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek we're test fitting the Thule Vertex Swing. This is a hanging-style 4-bike rack designed to swing away from your vehicle even when you have your bikes loaded up. Part number on it is TH9031XT. Now one of the new things about the 9031XT is going to be an integrated cable lock. Fits right down in the mast. It's going to come back over our bikes and secures into the back of the arm here using one of the Thule One Key style tumblers. more

SportRack Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek- Video
Today on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we've got the Sportrack ridge swing that we're going to test fit for you. This is a swing-away 4 bike rack. It's been designed for use in two-inch hitches. Part number is SR2415. Now, first things first, the swing-away feature is very easy to operate. We've got the black lever here, sorry, not a black lever but a black T-handle bolt. You're going to un-thread that. And lift up on our black T-handle and let that come open just slightly. We'll then we lift the T-handle pin under the first fold there and move it to our second, then begin to swing it on out. more

Thule Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek TH9029XT- Video
Today on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we're test fitting the Thule Vertex. This is the fold-away, tilting 4-bike rack. It's been designed for with 1 1/4 or with 2 inch hitches. Part number on it is TH9029XT. There is a neat integrated cable lock here coming right out of the mast, hooks into the back of one of dual cradle arms. Uses the Thule one-key lock system so you can switch that out if you want to for a tumbler you already have or you can start to match that. We've got three cradles that are going to hold our bike in position on this rack. more

Saris Freedom Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek SA4414B- Video
Today on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek we're doing a test fit on the Saris Freedom. This is a platform-style 4-bike rack. It's been designed for use in 2" hitches. Part number on it is SA4414B. Really neat thing about the Freedom to start off with is that if we pull the clip and pin located right down here at the bottom and then push the gray handle here on the back, that rack is going to tilt right out and away from our vehicle even if we had the four bikes loaded. It goes down further than a lot of the ones that we have and it allows really good access. more

Today on our 2014 Subaru Crosstrek XV we're going to be test fitting the Thule Helium Aero. This is a folding and tilting 2-bike rack. It's been designed for use in 1-1/4" or 2" inches. The part number is TH9042. This is also available in a 3 bike. Its part number TH9043. To begin our test fit were going to slide the shank of the rack into the receiver tube of our hitch as we hold out on the black pin located here on the right side. more
