Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2015 Nissan Titan- Video
Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Nissan Titan we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller for one to three axles. Part number TK90160 and to help us in our installation we're going to be using the Tekonsha plugin wiring adapter for electric brake controllers for Nissan and Infinity, Part number 3050-P. If you're looking for a proportional brake controller that has a lot of nice features, but isn't overly confusing to operate our Primus IQ is going to be a great option. It's going to give us that proportional braking and simple slide know to adjust the power. With the boost setting it's going to make it extremely easy to use.It is a proportional brake controller which means it's going to apply the brakes to our trailer at the same time and intensity that we apply the brakes on our truck. Our Primus IQ is going to have an automatic level adjuster in there and so once we have it mounted and it's within the range specified, we're not going to have to do anything else besides set our power output. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Nissan Titan, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Voyager trailer break controller for one to four axles, part number 39510. To help us on our installation, we're gonna be using the Tekonsha plug-in wiring adaptor for left brake controllers for Nissan and Infinity, part number 3050-p.So, here's what a Voyager looks like once we have them installed. It is a proportional brake controller, which means it's gonna apply the brakes for our trailer at the same time and intensity that we apply the brakes on our truck. A Voyager's not gonna have all the same features as some of the other proportional brake controllers, but it is gonna get the job done.It's gonna be an extremely simple and easy to use design. Over here on the right-hand side, we're gonna have our power output that we can adjust up and down for the maximum power that are gonna be applied to our brakes. And just like most brake controllers, we are gonna have the manual override in case our trailer starts to sway from going down a hill or any situation where we need brakes on our trailer and not on our truck.The nice thing about the simplicity of our Voyager is we're gonna one LED light. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2011 Ford van we will be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller, part number 90195. For this install we will also be using part number ETBC7.The Prodigy P3 is proportional brake controller that works great for one to four axles, with this being a proportional brake controlled it will sense what amount of braking power you need to send to your trailer. It really helps out in emergency braking situations when we need maximum braking power. When you're in a normal braking situation it applies proper power saving your brakes on your trailer overall making towing much safer. Compared to a traditional time delayed brake controller this gives you the exact amount of braking power when you need it. It has a lot of features to customize your towing needs from preset boost and gain settings for heavier or lighter loads to memory options if you haul a similar load often.To begin our installation I'm gonna go ahead and mount our adapter plate for our seven and four pole. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Express Van- Video
Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Express we're gonna be installing the Tekonsha Primus trailer brake controller, part number TK90160. The Primus is gonna provide all of your necessary features for your entry level brake controller system. This is gonna more stripped down compared to some of your other models, it's only gonna have your primary functions that's necessary. It's got a digital display versus other models that may have an LCD however this one will still be able to provide you with diagnostic features as well as displaying voltage to your trailer during braking.It provides a proportional braking system so the harder you brake the harder your trailer brakes will brake. This also works with the momentum of the vehicle so as it detects more momentum it does apply harder brakes in the back to stop your trailer at the same rate as your vehicle. There's no level adjustment required unlike some other models that may require you to drive the vehicle and set your level adjustment before the proportional braking will work properly. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2010 Ford F150, we're going to be installing the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller, part number 39510. To help us get this installed, we're going to be using the Tekonsha Wiring Adapter for Brake Controllers for the Ford F150, part number 22292. This brake controller is going to provide all the braking assist you need when hauling your electric brake trailer. This is going to be an entry-level unit that doesn't have a lot of options but gives you everything you need as far as hauling your railer safely. The Voyager is the most basic model of Tekonsha's line of brake controllers. The Primus is going to offer some more features having an LED display whereas the prodigy models are going to offer an even nicer display and more fine tuning options.This controller provides feedback using the LED on top. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Honda Odyssey, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake controller, part number 90195. Now to help us with our installation, we're going to be using the universal installation kit for trailer brake controllers with a seven way RV and four way flat connector, part number ETBC7.So here's what our P3's going to look like once we have it installed. It is a proportional brake controller, which means it's going to apply the trailer brakes in the same intensity and at the same time that we apply the brakes on our vehicle. Because there's an internal inertia sensor, that's going to detect the deceleration of our vehicle and apply the brakes accordingly to our trailer.Like most brake controllers, this is going to have a manual override button. It's going to have a lever here at the bottom and if we sweep it over to the left, we can see that it's going to manually apply the brakes even if I'm not pushing on the brake pedal on my car. Now this is going to come in handy if your trailer starts to sway, when you're going down the road and you need to slow it down without hitting the brakes on your vehicle. more

Speaker 1: Today in our 2016 Volkswagen Toureg, we'll be having a look at and installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller, part number 90885.What sets this brake controller apart from other controllers on the market is we've got this nice, easy to read display, here, but yet we still have features that other, cheaper models don't have without spending a lot of money in order to get those. The ability to run electric over hydraulic brakes is a great benefit that a lot of brake controllers can't do.Another thing I really liked about this controller is the fact that it's proportional. We don't have to worry about messing with the controller while we're driving. If we just need a little bit of braking assistance, it'll give us a little bit of braking assistance. If we have a panic stop, it'll give us more braking power to our trailer brakes so we don't have to worry about our trailer passing us if we're in a panic stop situation.We've already plugged in to our trailer, so you see the C right here means we're connected and we have a good connection between our trailer and our vehicle. If it we're to become disconnected, it would start flashing NC, for "No connection." You'll also see that every time you start your vehicle with no trailer connected to it, to let you know that you're not hooked up.Now, down here on the bottom of the brake controller, we have our manual override switch. more

Now this pigtail wiring adapter eases installation and simplifies the installation of your electric trailer brake controller. The connector in simply plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle. Then the wired ends over here, they simply connect to the wires on your brake controller with the included duct connectors. This harnesses compatible with time delay and propositional brake controllers from TrailerMate, Draw-Tite, and Tekonsha. The wires do have a really nice mesh jacket that goes around them. more

Speaker 1: Today on this 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited we will be having a look at and showing you how to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller, part number 331-EBRH-ACCV2. In conjunction with the etrailer ETBC7 kit in order to ease our installation, part number ETBC7.Here's what our Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller looks like installed. Once we have it installed it will need to calibrate itself initially and that'll happen with about 20 applications of the brake pedal while the vehicle is in motion. You'll know once it's calibrate when you hook it up to your trailer and you'll have a solid green LED light.Now what's great about this brake controller compared to other proportional brake controllers on the market is that we can mount this virtually anywhere. The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite is also proportional but you can also use it in a user control mode as well. What the user control mode is going to it is going to allow you to have the brakes being applied at all times whenever your foot is on the brake pedal, this will be great for off road applications such as if you're towing an overlaying camper or driving over rough terrain and hills this will allow you to have full control over your brakes without having false activations if you're only putting light pressure on your brake pedal.Another great feature about it is that it's super easy to use. more

Now, to help us in our installation, we're going to be using the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adaptor for trailer brake controllers, part number 3023-P.Here's our Prodigy P2 installed and what it looks like. Now, our Prodigy P2 is a proportional brake controller, which means it's going to apply the brakes in the same intensity at the same time that it senses our vehicle slowing down. That's because it has an internal inertia sensor that's going to detect the deceleration of our vehicle. Opposed to time delay brake controllers, which are just going to have a slight time delay, and they're going to slowly ramp up the power going to your brakes until it reaches the maximum.Now, the one thing that I really like about the Prodigy P2 is that since it is proportional, if we're at a stoplight, we don't want to brake to the maximum power because we're not moving. We don't need that much power going to our brakes. more

Tekonsha Brake Controller 20160 Review- Video
Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the 60 inch long pigtail wiring harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite brake controllers. Now this harness will let you install your brake controller in another vehicle and it can also be used to replace a lost or damaged harness. It's a very simple installation. Basically, just insert the plug right here into the back of your brake controller and then on this end you'll have your four wires that you just hard wire into your vehicle. This is designed to work with most Tekonsha and Draw-Tite brake controllers and again the total length on this wire when you stretch it all the way out would be 60 inches. But that should do it for the review on the 60 inch long pigtail wiring harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite brake controllers.. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee we'll be having a look at and installing the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller, part number 331-EBRH-ACCV2.Here's what our brake controller looks like installed. The only part that we're gonna have visible on our vehicle at all is our actual push button here with our control knob. As you can see how small and compact it is this makes it an ideal solution for vehicles that don't have a lot of room in order to mount a conventional brake controller. Also if you don't want to have a brake controller mounted in the conventional spot on the lower right hand portion of your dash board because it interferes with your legs while you're driving this is a great solution for you too. Not only that but you can mount the control knob in a location where it's easy for you to reach and see while you're driving so you don't have to take your eyes off the road.As you can see with the location here of our gear shifter and our knob it is in a great location of where our hand will be resting while we're driving when our hand's not on the steering wheel. If we need to shift gears or adjust our brake controller we can easily do it without moving our arm very far.Now our brake controller has an LED that's built into it which shows you where your currently positioned on your knob, anywhere from zero all the way up to ten. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Chevrolet Silverado we're gonna be taking a look at and also showing you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller for one to four axles and that's gonna be part number 90885. To help us with our installation we're gonna be using the Tekonsha plug in wiring adapter, part number 3016.Here's what our brake controller's gonna look like once we have it installed. The blue light's gonna let us know that it's getting power, however if we apply the brakes it's gonna tell us NC letting us know that our trailer is not connected. Once I hook up my trailer we're gonna have a C letting us know that the trailer is connected. At a quick glance you can already tell if your trailer's hooked up or not.Our Prodigy P2 is gonna be a proportional brake controller and what that means is it's gonna have an internal sensor that's gonna realize how much we're slowing down so when we apply the brakes on our truck it's gonna apply the same amount and at the same time to our trailer. Opposed to time delay brake controllers which are just gonna apply the brakes as soon as you hit the brakes there's gonna be a small pause and then they're just gonna ramp up and apply the brakes to the maximum power. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, we're gonna be having a look at and installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller, part number: 90885, in conjunction with our Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers, part number: 3016. Here's what our brake controller looks like installed. We already have a trailer plugged into our truck, so we have a "C" right here, which shows that we have a working electrical connection between the two. If we're trailer we're to ever become unhooked from the back of our truck, or we have an electrical fault, "NC" will be displayed here on the screen to let us know that we have a problem and our brakes on the trailer aren't working.Now, what I really like about this brake controller is that it gives us the functionality in order for us to tow a trailer that has up to four axles, so we can have up to eight electric brakes on our trailer. Also, we have the ability to tow a trailer that has electric over hydraulic brakes with no input required from us at all on the brake controller in order to make the setting change for that to work. It'll happen automatically. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, we'll be having a look at and installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, part number 90195, and to ease our installation, we will be using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for electric brake controllers, part number 3016.Here's what our brake controller looks like installed. We have ours hooked up to a trailer right now, and when you're hooked up, you see you get an icon of a truck towing a trailer and it shows your current power output going towards your brakes. Since this is a proportional brake controller and we're in park right now, when I step on my brake pedal, we don't get any power being applied because we're not actually moving. There is no false application of the brakes. You have to be moving in a forward direction with your brakes applied.This brake controller will allow you to tow a trailer up to four axles controlling four sets of electric trailer brakes. Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2012 GMC Acadia- Video
Speaker 1: Today on our 2012 GMC Acadia we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller for one to four axles, part number 90885. In order to help us get it installed we're gonna be using the universal installation kit for trailer brake controllers, part number ETBC7.Here's what our brake controller looks like fully installed. It's a proportional brake controller, which mean's it's gonna apply the brakes to our trailer in the same amount and intensity as we're applying the brakes to our car. Because there's an internal inertia sensor we're not gonna have to worry about the angle that we mounted in the vertical plane, but we are gonna have to mount it nice and level and in the direction of travel.Now the C on our controller's gonna let us know that our trailer is connected. The blue dial on the left here is gonna be for our power. Our power level's gonna go all the way from zero if I hit the manual override button so we can see it it's gonna go all the way up to 13. more

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Hayes air-actuated trailer brake controller. The brake controller activates your trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. It activates immediately so there's no pausing, like with time-delayed brake controllers. The air-activated controller ties in to your vehicle's air brakes to sense the amount of pressure that you apply to the brakes, so thus, you don't automatically adjust the trailer's braking based on how you depress the brake pedal in your tow vehicle. The rate of brake application can be increased or decreased by turning the controller handle. Also, right here, there's a red LED indicator on the front of the unit that shows when the trailer's brakes are applied, and the light will glow brighter as trailer output increases. more

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at and installing the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller. Part number 90250.Here's what the Prodigy RF looks like installed. What's great about the Prodigy RF is if you have a trailer that is towed by multiple different vehicles that may or may not have a break controller installed in them, you'll be able to have functional trailer brakes with any vehicle towing it because the Prodigy RF is mounted permanently to the trailer and you have a handheld unit that you can swap between vehicles that only requires a 12-volt power connection.This is great for some vehicles where you don't want to install a break controller because it's not possible because you don't have a cold side of the brake light switch. Some higher end vehicles are like that or if you just don't want to deal with having a brake control mount in your vehicle because you don't want the cluttered look of having it mounted to the dash somewhere.All the Prodigy RF will require on the vehicle that's doing the towing is a 7-way connector that has the lighting functions and a 12-volt constant power source that's run to your vehicles battery. Speaker 1: Today on our 2005 Toyota Tundra, we're gonna be taking a look at, showing you how to install, the Draw-Tite I-Command Trailer Brake Controller, for 1 to 4 Axles, part number 5535. Now, to help us in our installation we're also gonna be using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers for Toyotas and Lexuses, part number 3040-P.So here's what our break controller looks like when it's fully installed. Now, our break controller is proportional, which means it's gonna apply our trailer breaks in the same intensity that our vehicle is slowing down. It's gonna do that because there's an inertia sensor inside, so when our vehicle starts to slow down, that sensor is gonna realize how much we're slowing down, apply our trailer breaks accordingly. Now, it's also gonna feature a manual override, in case you ever need to have a time where you need to apply the trailer brakes without applying the brakes on your truck. You can grab this lever, and if we start rotating it to the side, it will apply the maximum amount of breaks if we have it all the way over.Now, our gain setting is gonna be these gray buttons right here, and it's gonna max out at 10, and will go all the way down to zero. more

So here's where our Primus IQ looks like when it's fully installed. Now it is a proportional brake controller, which means it's gonna apply our trailer brakes in the same intensity and at the same time that we apply the brakes in our vehicle. Now what our trailer brake controller is going to do is it's going to take the signal from our brake pedal, so when we press on it, it's gonna take that signal, following the wires, and it's gonna send it out to 7-way at the back, and it's gonna send the proper signal from the back of our 7-way to our trailer to our brakes and have the proper signal, and the right adjustments of everything.Now the CR brake controller is going to let us know that the brake controller senses that the trailer is connected so just a quick glance down, we can know if we're connected properly or if there's any issues at the back. The button on top here is going to be for our boost setting, and we're gonna have three different boost settings. It's gonna be off, one, two, and three. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2013 Ford Edge, we will be having a look at and installing the Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller, part number 5504.To ease our installation, we will be using the ETBC7 Installation Kit as well, along with the Draw-Tite Replacement Brake Control Plug-in Harness. The Brake Controller's part number 20127.Now, my favorite thing about this, the sync feature is very nice. It will really let you dial in to almost make it like a proportional brake controller, but give you the benefits that a time-delay controller offers.Now, this brake controller is a nice, time delayed unit that has more features than some of the cheaper models, but yet this is still a very affordable unit to get for your vehicle. What a time delayed brake controller does over proportional brake controller is, any time your foot's on the brake pedal, the brakes are applied on your trailer even if you're not moving. This is great for if you're using your brake controller on an off-road style trailer.Now, this brake controller has three functions on it that you need to concern yourself with.
