Using Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller on Vehicle with Integrated Brake Controller
Question:
Can this brake controller be used on a vehicle that has a wired brake controller already installed? If I hook this product up to my vehicle will it do damage to the control? I have multiple vehicles , some with and some without a wired brake control. Or do I just use the wired brake control and unplug this one.

Many owners of vehicles with factory integrated brake controllers (ITBCs) prefer to use aftermarket units for their versatility (many can operate both electric and electric-over-hydraulic braking systems) and for their proven reliability.
Using an aftermarket controller will not damage the factory unit but it will result in an error message on the driver information center. Again, this does no harm so if it does not bother you to see an error code/message on the dash then you're fine using a great system like the Prodigy RF # TK94FR.
However, if you're driving a 07 to 13 GMC or Chevrolet truck with ITBC you can refer to the linked article which describes how to correct the error message from using an aftermarket controller.
One aftermarket controller can be used in multiple vehicles. Quick-connect adapters are available that are vehicle-specific to allow for quick transfer of a controller like the Prodigy P2 # 90885 from one vehicle to another by simply unplugging it and moving it to the other vehicle.

Adam, Great article and thank you for writing it. I have the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Electric Brake Controller already and have purchased a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. I want to keep using the Prodigy RF controller and not use the one that came from the factory. Based on your article, this should not be a problem as it will just show an error on the dash. My question is do I need to do anything to the factory controller for a setting. Just leave it alone or make sure it is set to 0. Thank you J Schneider
