How to Select Parts to Add Brakes to a Trailer with Idler Hubs, 1997 Coleman Santa Fe

Question:

HI E-trailer- Im considering buying a 1997 Coleman Sante Fe popup which weighs 1550 lbs dry and a GVWR of 2400lbs. and would like to estimate costs to add electric brakes. The trailer currently does not have brakes but does have welded brake flanges I dont know what size or mounting pattern. I also dont know what the bearing dimensions are. My question is: do I have the option of picking either 7inch or 10inch brakes or will the brake size depend on what type of mounting brake flange or axle bearing dimensions are? Or is it based on the popup weight or the manufactureres original brake design? Thanks in advance for your help-

I attached a link to the right that details exactly what all would be needed to install electric brakes on a trailer that didn't have them previously.

First thing you will need to figure out is either the dimensions of the spindles where the bearings ride or the inner and outer bearing numbers. Next, you will need to determine the bolt pattern of the hubs that are on the trailer currently so you can match up the new hub/drums to the wheels you currently have.

With those two pieces of information we can see what hubs will fit the spindle and we will know what size brake assemblies are available to match.
