You will need to identify the wires by function and not by color on your 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Texas Edition when you want to install a brake controller like part # 80550. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to install a brake controller. I recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to make sure you identify the right wires.
On GM trucks the wires needed to connect to a brake controller can be found under the left side of the instrument panel to the left of the steering column. They should have a white label identifying them. The wires should be Red/Black, White, Light Blue/White, Dark Blue, and possibly Orange.
To connect the brake controller this is how it should be installed.
Connect the Brake Control as Follows: Red/Black wire to Black, for battery power. White wire to White wire for ground. Light Blue/White wire to Red for Brake Light Signal. Dark Blue wire to Blue for Brake Output to Trailer. Orange wire is normally not used and can simply be taped off or capped.
