Installing Trailer Lamps as Auxiliary Lighting on Rear Bumper of 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Question:

Hello, I have a 2007 Toyota Sequoia. I have been wanting to add additional running and signal lights to the rear bumper guard on my truck and was looking at the trailer led tail light bars that you sell. My question is, is it possible to wire trailer lights directly into a cars system w/o a harness? The tail lights on my truck have a separate bulb for signal lights and tail lights if that helps. Thank you so much!

Although the lighting systems of trailers are usually less sophisticated than those cars use, it is possible to use a LED lamp like # STL79RB on your Sequoia.

Your Sequoia should be equipped with a 7-way trailer connector. The wiring harness that feeds it is where you'll tap in to wire up the extra lamps. Use a circuit tester like part # PTW2992 to probe the wires in the harness leading to the connector. Have a helper activate the left turn signal. Probe the wires until you find the wire that makes the tester light up. Activate the right turn signal and do the same. Then, turn on the running lamps and probe the wires until you locate that circuit.

Each # STL79RB features three wires. A red, a black and a white. The red wire would attach to the turn signal wire for whatever side of the vehicle you're installing the lamp. The black wire would attach to the running lamp circuit and the white wire would ground to the vehicle chassis or frame.
