Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2014 Ford Focus to Carry Bale of Hay
Question:
I need to transport a bale of Bermuda from my local feed store to the stable where I board my horse. I just sold my truck so all I have to work with is my 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback. I am interested in the Draw-Tite Sportsframe trailer hitch, Class 1, 1-1/4inch with this cargo carrier. A bale measures 48inch long, 24inch wide, and 16inch high. If 2inch stick out on the front and back of the carrier does it prohibit the bale from being strapped down safely? I plan on covering said bale with a tarp or blanket before strapping it down to prevent scratching the back of my Focus. I also plan on only transporting one bale at a time. Is this cargo carrier my best option? Thank you for your help!

You should have no problem carrying a bale of Bermuda grass with the Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18110, installed in the Curt Hitch part # C11158 on your 2014 Ford Focus.
The bale might be a little bit wider than the depth of the carrier, but it will still work fine. I worked at a feed store at one point and several people did the same thing you are looking to do and even if the bale was slightly larger than the carrier it could still easily be secured with a strap or a cargo net.
Another option you would have would be to turn the bale up on end so that the side of the bale with the strings is facing you and the edge of the bale is on top.
