The Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch, item # 31302, is designed for a no drill, bolt on application on the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche.
According to the instructions, if you install the hitch in the through bumper configuration you will need to cut a 3 inch square hole in the plastic fascia to allow the receiver to be correctly installed. 3 inches takes into account the hitch opening, 2 inches, the steel dimensions, 2-1/2 inches square and the reinforcement flange that is mounted around the opening of the hitch. The location of the hole will be positioned in the center of the fascia 3-1/2 inches below the top edge of the plastic fascia. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.
I recommend test fitting the hitch prior to cutting the fascia so that you are sure that you are cutting in the correct location. This will also give you an idea of how hard it will be to install and remove the hitch pin when changing out accessories on the front of the vehicle.
