How To Charge Batteries To Run Aux Circuits in Truck Tool Box without Discharging Truck Battery
Question:
I have a new diesel truck Ram, what I would like to do is set up an additional deep cycle battery with a power converter in the tool box in the bed of truck so I have a power source to run surveillance equipment at night when the truck is off with out taking power from my truck batteries. Though, I would like this battery to be connected to alternators so it will recharge when the truck is running. With regards to the alternators, I have dual 220 amp. Thank you

On the output post of your dual alternators you will need to run a thick gauge wire from there to the positive post of the batteries you plan on installing in the tool box of your truck. This will put a decent charge on those batteries while you are driving.
To prevent the batteries from discharging your truck batteries you will also need to install the # PK5231201 isolator on this charge line. This will prevent the circuit from the battery of your truck to the battery in your tool box from being completed when the truck is turned off.
The center pin of this solenoid will get run to a keyed 12 volt power source (one that is only active when the key is on) and either side of the solenoid will from either the output post of the alternator or the positive side of the battery in your tool box. Doesn't matter which side gets run to which.
