Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera Gets Lines in Display then Goes to Blue Screen on 2014 Ram 2500

Question:

just installed a Hopkins smart hitch on my 2014 dodge ram 2500hd with the Cummings 6.7. The trailer plug would not work so I tie it the back up light as suggested. When I hit reverse they are lines running thru the monitor and igoes to a blue screen. Whats wrongs

It sounds like one of two possible problems. First, since you did the hardwire method, make sure that you also grounded the wiring to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. Check that the splices are good and secure along with all plug-in connections.

It is possible that power is being interrupted and that could be what is causing the problems.

The other possibility is that there is something wrong with the unit and it will need to be replaced. I own this same system and have not had a problem yet though sometimes when it is hot outside the picture gets a little fuzzy.

If there is something wrong with the unit that could explain why it did not work when you plugged it in. But you will also want to make sure the reverse light circuit is working at the 7-Way on your 2014 Ram 2500. It could be a missing or blown fuse.
