Best Trunk Mount Bike Rack for 2003 Nissan Xterra

I have a 2003 Nissan xterra with no hitch so I was wondering if this was my best bet regarding trunk racks.

If you're looking for a rack that will be used occasionally, there are many racks that would work great for you, including the Thule Passage # TH910XT you mentioned. This type of rack uses a 6 strap/buckle/hook arrangement to attach to the vehicle. The attachment system works pretty well, but it's not very quick, easy or convenient.

The Thule OutWay, part # TH45JV uses only 2 rubber coated straps, which allows the rack to be installed or removed in moments. Without a doubt, it's the easiest to use trunk mount rack I've ever encountered. The rack also provides locks for the rack and the bikes which offers a degree of theft deterrence.

You'll want to avoid using your rear wiper with the rack in place.

If you'll be transporting women's bikes or bikes with sharply-angled top tubes, you might also consider a frame adapter bar like part # 64005. The bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, which provides a secondary attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes ground clearance.
