Tow Bar for 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 Recommendation

Question:

We have Falcon 2 tow bar set-up for Jeep Grand Cherokee. We just expanded into a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 and are questioning whether the 6000 lb Falcon 2 will apply or whether an upgrade like the Black Hawk 2 be used. I already have the EZ Base Plate Kit, 52289-1 and Universal Wiring Kit 154. What parts are needed to finish out my situation in either case, using existing Falcon 2 or ordering new Black Hawk 2.

As a first step, you will need to confirm with your owner's manual or Dodge dealer that your 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 is capable of being flat towed.

If you can, I recommend upgrading your tow bar. The tow bar I recommend is the Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 Tow Bar # RM-422. This tow bar is designed for full size trucks like your 2014 Dodge Ram and has a weight capacity of 10,000 lbs and is compatible with your current base plates. I am sending a video link to the Blackhawk 2 tow bar being installed on a Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle is different but the installation is similar.

Check out the links to a series of FAQ articles that contain more information about flat towing. I also recommend a supplemental brake system for your vehicle. My recommendation, the Roadmaster Even Brake, part # RM-9400, is very easy to use and install.

Finally, I also recommend safety cables like the Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, # BX88197.
