Brake Controller Recommendation and How To Install it in a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country

Question:

Trailer Brake Controller I have a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country with the factory Trailer Tow Package. The hitch and 4 wire harness on a 7 pole connector were installed by a hitch company.I want to put electric trailer controler on it. I am looking at a Draw Tite controler . What else will I need to intsall it on my Van? Thank You

First let's start with a brake controller. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that will apply the trailer brakes at the same intensity as the tow vehicle brakes are applied. Unlike a time-delayed controller like the # 5504 that you referenced that always will apply the brakes at the same intensity regardless of the braking situation.

Next, for a wiring kit to install the brake controller and the 7-way adapter you would want the Wiring Kit for 2 and 4 Brake Electric Brake Controllers # 5506. This will provide the power source and ground for the wiring for the brake controller. You will need to test the wires from the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find a circuit that has voltage when the brakes are applied and none when not applied. This will be the circuit you will run the red wire to on the brake controller

Finally you will need to run a length of 10 gauge wire (part # 10-1-1) from the brake output circuit of the controller to the brake output circuit of the 7-way you have on your vehicle. The # 10-1-1 is sold by the foot so you will need to order a quantity of the amount of feet you will need.
