To flat tow a vehicle you will need at least 5 items: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For the specific procedures once you are ready to go, consult the vehicle owners manual in the recreational towing section.

For base plates you can use # BX2163. They will install basically where the tow hooks are (if equipped) on the truck.

For a compatible tow bar, if your 2000 Ford F-250 weighs less than 6,500 pounds you can use the Alpha, # BX7380. This tow bar also includes safety cables. For something with a higher capacity you can use the Avail, # BX7420. It is rated for 10,000 pounds and also comes with safety cables.

For lighting a simple magnetic kit, # RM-2120, would work well for you. They are easy to use and you will not have to cut into the vehicle wiring to use it.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. A popular system is the Stay-IN-Play DUO, # SM99251. It will apply the truck brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult your owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
