When choosing a transmission cooler, the most important thing you want to know is where it will fit so that it will provide the maximum cooling possible. I have attached a drawing that shows the locations typically used for a transmission cooler and where the best location is if possible. As the drawing shows, if you can mount the cooler between your vehicle's grille and the AC condenser core you will gain the greatest efficiency.
If your 2012 Ford F-450 is not a diesel, I recommend a plate-fin cooler for maximum efficiency, like part # D13504. This Class lV cooler measures 11 inches wide by 12 inches tall and is 7/8 inches deep.
For a little smaller cooler I recommend part # D13503. this is a Class lll cooler and measures 11 X 8-3/4 x 7/8 inches. I have attached a product review for this cooler you can take a look at.
I have also attached a couple of helpful articles about transmission coolers you can check out.
