12 inch Brake Assemblies and 5 Bolt Mounting Flange Recommendation for an Old Warner Trailer

Question:

I have old style axles with 12 inch warner electric brakes. The flange I believe is the same as the offset five bolt backing plate pattern. The problem is my trailer wheel has 5 on 5 bolt pattern only seen available in a 10 inch drum combination. But my trailer has 12 inch drums on it. So, is there a 10 in backing plate drilled for 5 bolt mounting or a 12 inch drum with 5 on 5 bolt pattern.

This is quite the dilemma that took me a few readings to understand completely. There's no easy answer though since as you realized all of the 10 inch brake assemblies require a 4 bolt mounting flange (you have a 5 bolt flange), and none of the 12 hub/drums we offer have a 5 on 5 inch bolt pattern like what your trailer wheels need.

I believe your best possible solution would be to remove the brake mounting flanges you have on your trailer and install new ones that will match up to the 12 inch brake assemblies. For that you would want the part # 4-44-1 as long as you have round 3 inch axles. If you don't have 3 inch round axles email me back and I will try and come up with a better solution. You will need to find a qualified welder with experience welding brake flanges to install the flange as it needs to be installed in exactly the correct location.

Now for brake assemblies # 23-105 would be a great choice for a left hand assembly and the part # 23-106 for the right hand assembly.
