Lowering Height of Cargo Trailer to Fit in Garage

Question:

I have a pace 6x10 cargo trailer which is 4 inches to tall to fit in my garage. Presently has 15 inch tires and 10 inch brakes which I added last year. If I were to reinstall idler hubs and 12 inch wheels, is it possible I could squeze the trailer into the garage. I expect it will be in the garage for some time. A friend suggested removing the axle all together and roll the thing on a series of PVC pipes into the garage. Please advise.

Going with a 12 inch wheel versus a 15 inch wheel is only going to lower your trailer by half the difference in diameter, which in this case would be 1-1/2 inches, which won't be enough to get the trailer into your garage.

Your friend's idea of using PVC pipe as rollers is intriguing, but I would measure the height from the bottom of the axle to the highest point of the trailer, to see if that distance plus the diameter of the rollers is shorter than the height of the garage door opening. If so, you could just remove the wheels and hubs, instead of the entire axle and suspension assembly which would be a pain.
