Tightening a Loose Hitch Ball on Diversi-Tech Self-Locking Adjustable Ball Mount # DTALBM6625-2S

Question:

Hi, I bought this hitch for my F350 to pull a dump trailer. Occasionally, I pull my trailer with a skid steer right at 10,000 lbs, total. The ball is now loose, in fact, when you move the upper ball, the bottom one moves slightly also. This doesnt seem right, and can they be tightened? Please advise.

I spoke with my contact at Diversi-Tech regarding the hitch ball coming loose on the Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount, # DTALBM6625-2S. He said that they most often see something like this happen when the hitch has been overloaded. You will want to make sure to abide by the 10,000 pound towing capacity of the ball mount. Ensuring that the 10,000 pound weight rating is not exceeded should prevent this issue from happening again.

In order to tighten the hitch ball, you will need to complete the following steps:

Remove “Warning” sticker from ball holder platform on 2 5/16 inch ball side, below the sticker is a set screw hole. Using a .050 mm allen wrench remove the set screw. Insert key into ball holder lock turn 1/4 and pull lock out. Using a pair of needle nose pliers remove actuator shaft that sat behind the lock cylinder noting how it is positioned. Remove main adjustment pin from the back side of the ball holder where the drop bar would typically be. Remove Spring. Using a 5/16 inch allen wrench, tighten the main ball bolt to desired tightness. Preform operation in reverse to reinstall locking mechanism.
