The Remov-A-Ball gooseneck trailer hitches such as # 6300-4440 use a lever is a Z-shaped track to lock/unlock the ball. If the mechanism is binding up and not allowing the lever to move it could need to be lubricated. You would need to go under the truck to see the bottom of the mechanism to determine if it can be lubricated or if something is interfering with the operation of the lever. You should also be able to see if anything is corroded or broken and causing the problem.
To release the ball you would move the lever to the position in the track furthest from the safety chain loops. See instructions linked to the right. The maintenance steps for these hitches is as follows:
-Keep assembly free of dirt and debris.
-Lubricate hitch ball monthly or as needed with heavy grease. (Such as # L11354.)
-Lubricate ball tube with heavy grease when ball is installed and/or removed.
-Lubricate locking pin monthly or as needed with spray-on penetrating oil.
-Check bolt torque monthly.
-Check equipment before towing for worn or damaged parts. REPLACE WORN OR DAMAGED PARTS IMMEDIATELY.
A lot of people will just not bother with these steps but they are necessary to keep everything working properly.
