Fifth Wheel Hitch and Truck Recommendation to Tow a 2012 Excel 31RSE
Question:
We are considering a 2012 Excel 31rse with GVWR:17500 We are assuming we would need a diesel one ton truck with long bed - most likely used. What are your recommendations for the truck itself, and what kind of hitch? Average price? What average cost are we looking at for a hitch install? Anything else we should consider? Thank you!

You are on the right track a one ton diesel truck with a long bed would be your best choice for a truck. I like basically any Chevy or GMC after 2001 as they have great engines with strong transmissions.
The Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30081 that you referenced would be perfect. This is an excellent hitch with plenty of capacity that would work well for you. Check out the demo video I attached to the right to see more about it's features.
The installation kit needed will vary based on what truck you end up getting. I recommend going with a custom install kit as they will install in about half the time as a universal kit and will minimize drilling.
