Brake Controller Circuit Breaker Installation in Motor Home

Question:

I already have a fuse panel on the coach. Do I still install the circuit breakers? I have access to 12v power on the same panel. Cant I use that for hooking up the 12v wire?

A trailer brake controller such as the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 must be installed as per the manufacturer's instructions which means a direct-from-the-battery 12V power connection. It may be tempting to consider using a nearby fuse panel for 12V power access but this is not recommended for safety reasons.

Brake controllers do not have power switches, for the reason that any interruption to power for the controller could have catastrophic effects when you are towing. For the same reason it is required that the unit's power input be direct to the battery through the appropriate value of circuit breaker.
