Can New 12 and 14 Gauge Wire be Used with Existing 10 and 12 Gauge Wiring on Gooseneck Trailer
Question:
Good day. I purchased a 7 way connector for our gooseneck 40 car trailer, 3 axle @ 5200 lbs each. The extension we purchased has three 12 and four 14 wires. I didnt realize when ordering until I received and cord is smaller diameter. Looking at old now they are 10 and12 gauge wires. Question is if we use the new received will this be ok or should I send back for the heavier duty one. Thanks

The slight difference in wire gauge between the new part and the existing wiring will be fine. There isn't enough voltage or amperage, to cause any problems. It would be a different story if we were talking about more voltage and/or amperage. But in this case, no worries with the slightly smaller gauge wire.
