Installation Instructions for a Strait Line WD System to Properly Set Hitch Ball Angle
Question:
Hi I have Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar My question is in relation to the ball hitch. I have been told that the ball hitch should be angled or tilted slightly away from the tow vehicle. Others have told me the ball should be at a 90inch angle but when I do that the chains can be moved by hand. And also there should 5 links of chain left unused on the arm if I use more and it will effect my turning. Is this true? I am asking because there is no difference with the weight distribution hitch on or off everything installed as it should, but seems to be in the ball hitch in relation to the trailer, the question is the ball angle and chains. This is all Reese equipment Can send a picture if this will help

Actually the angle of the ball on the weight distribution head is determined by what the setup calls for. It depends on much spring tension is needed to properly distribute the weight and the overall orientation of the trailer frame in regards to the hitch ball.
Basically what you need to do is check out the installation instructions and the install video links I attached to the right and follow the setup procedure and you will be able to determine what the correct angle will be for your ball.
Super tight turns will require you remove your spring bars, but less severe turns would not.
