How to Find a Ball Mount with the Right Rise or Drop to Tow a Trailer Level with a Ford F-150
Question:
I have a new F-150 with a 7200# GVWR tow package. Im buying a 12foot enclosed motorcycle trailer that requires a 2 5/16inch ball. They quoted me a 2 5/6, but Im assuming that is a typo. The hitch is rated for Class IV. I will anticipate having just one 800# Harley in the trailer, plus gear. At times I will have an ATV and hunting gear in the trailer. Can you please recommend a draw bar and ball for this set up? I would like to make a purchase and have the package delivered by Friday of this coming week. Thank you.

Yes, it is likely supposed to be 2-5/16 since there isn't a 2-5/6 option. In order to choose the best ball mount for your new Ford F-150 and motorcycle trailer you will need to do just a little measuring. You want to be able to tow the trailer level so you have to measure for the rise or drop needed to do so.
Measuring is easy. Park the truck and the trailer on level ground. Measure from the ground up to the top of the trailer hitch receiver opening. Then use the trailer jack to make the trailer level and measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. If the truck measurement is higher then the difference between the two measurements is the amount of drop you will need. If the trailer is higher the difference is the amount of rise you will need. I have linked a help article to the right that explains these measurements.
Once you know the rise or drop you need you can select a ball mount. I have included a link to the ball mount main page for you. Once you have found the best option the recommended compatible balls will be linked on the right hand side of that ball mount product page.
