Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30081 Locks While Trying to Unhitch

We purchased a Reese 30081 5th wheel hitch from you. We love it except for one problem that is now occurring. HItches up fine, but when unhitching the jaws do not want to lock open and will close again around the hitch without warning, What are we doing wrong? With our previous hitch, we would lift the trailer up there was pressure off the hitch and then drive out from under it. Should we be doing that with this hitch or should we be pulling out when the hitch is just open but there is still quite a bit of trailer weight on it?

I spoke with my contact at Reese and I have attached a technical bulletin that addresses the problem that you are having with your Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # RP30081. They have found that in almost all cases, the head linkage has not been lubricated as pointed out in the instructions. The two pivot points can be accessed through the rear opening by the jaw. Make sure that head is lubricated as pointed out in the attachment and this should solve the problem.
