Reese Strait-Line System that will Allow Use of Existing Snap-Up Brackets on 30 Ft Toy Hauler
Question:
I am interested in the Reese Straight-Line system. I have a 30foot toy hauler, 10,400 GVWR, about 1k tongue weight max depending on loading. Full load actually reduces tongue weight due to the rearward distribution. Tow vehicle is an 05 F250 4x4 diesel, lifted 4, with air bags in the rear suspension that I adjust based on load. Problem is, the prior owner of the trailer welded snap-up brackets to the frame. They are 30inch on center from the center of the hitch ball. I cannot find length specs of the Reese spring bars. Can you advise if there is a system that could use existing snap-up brackets in this location? I have the shank and ball from the existing standard round bar system, so I am looking just for the head, cam bars, and cam sway control components.

Expert Reply:
The Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution with Sway Control, # RP66074, mounts approximately 30 inches back from the hitch ball, so you should not have any problem using the existing snap-up brackets that are welded to your trailer. Since you do plan to use the existing brackets, after installing the weight distribution system, you will want to make sure that the chains are as close to straight up and down as possible in order for everything to function properly.
Purchasing the system, which includes the snap-up brackets, works out to be less expensive than if you were to purchase each component individually.
I have included a video and an article for you.
