Towing a Trailer and Carrying Bikes on a Bike Rack at the Same Time

Question:

To whom it may concern: I need some expert advice. I have a Curt #D210 trailer hitch for my tent trailer. Im looking for a good bike hitch rack to take with me camping. I have 4 bikes to carry. Could you please recommend a good bike rack for me. Thanks.

Since you are using the Curt multipurpose ball mount # D210 you will want a bike rack that will allow you to move the cradles. The reason is that when you are carrying bikes and towing a trailer at the same time, the turning radius is reduced and the front of the trailer could make contact with the bikes.

With the cradles pushed back, closer to the tow vehicle, it will decrease the chances of that happening (but it still might). You would also want to make sure that the longest bike is closest to the tow vehicle and the shortest bike is at the end of the bike rack.

Most bike racks will allow you to move the cradles. Some are easier to move than others. But for a good option I recommend the Thule Hitching Post Pro, # TH934XTR. You can move the cradles by twisting back and forth while either pushing or pulling to move them. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.

Remember that the combined weight of the bike rack, bikes, and the tongue weight of the trailer cannot exceed 750 pounds.
