Can Equalizer Weight Distribution Shank Be Used with Reese Head Assembly
Question:
Im looking at buying Reese RP66130 15,000 lb setup. I currently have a Equalizer 10,000 lb setup. Can use my shank 14,000 lb I currently have with the Reese RP66130 setup?

We do not recommend mixing different brands of components within a system, whether it be a weight distribution hitch or a 5th wheel hitch set-up. While it may be possible to do so in some instances, since the different manufacturers will not have tested their items with those from the other maker, there could be an unknown overall capacity resulting from the mixing of components or slight variances in fit.
My technical contact at Reese advised that their weight distribution shanks, such as # RP54970, all have mounting holes of 3/4-inch diameter that are spaced 1-1/4-inches apart on center. If your existing equalizer shank matches these dimensions then you could probably use it, but it may result in some reduction of overall system capacity. Our recommendation is to keep your system 100-percent Reese.
