Difficulty Releasing Hooks from Bikes on Swagman XTC-2 Bike Rack

Question:

We have a Swagman hitchmount bike rack with the ratcheting hooks that hold down the bikes. They are very difficult to release once they are pushed down tight. Its gotten to the point where it takes two of us to do it- one to push down on the bike frame and one to squeeze the release. Any recommendations on how to make it easier? Weve tried oiling them, which helps some but still very difficult. Thanks

It sounds like you are pushing the hooks down too tight. They do not have to be super tight, just snug. Also sometimes on the Swagman XTC-2 bike rack # S64670 the upper hook can get wedged with the lower hook at the upright and that makes if very difficult to release either hook. The solution is to not lower the upper hooks as much.
