Reese Pilot Brake Controller Shows Dashes Instead of Dot with No Trailer Connected
Question:
I noticed my reese pilot showing 1 dash in each number display as the vehicle is not connected to trailer. Usually it only shows a dot when the trailer is not connected. I have not hooked up a trailer yet to see what it does but cant find anything on internet with people having the same problem.

I spoke with my contact at Reese and this is an issue they have not heard of before. My contact thinks that it could be a short or fault in the display itself. Or it could be that if the angle of the controller is just right and the light is shining on it, it could appear that other parts of the display are lighting up when they are actually not.
Try connecting a trailer and see what happens and if the controller operates correctly. If it does the same thing, even if the controller still functions normally, that indicates a problem with the display and you will need to replace the controller.
