Choosing a hitch-mount wheelchair carrier will require you to check the tongue weight capacities of both your vehicle and the hitch installed on it, and also to confirm the weight of your wheelchair and the carrier you choose. The combined weight of the carrier and chair must not exceed either the hitch's or the vehicle's weight capacity. If the vehicle and hitch do not share the same weight capacity then the lower-rated of the two becomes the limit for the system.

The ramped carrier you looked at, the Flint Hill Goods # FHG77ZR, fits 2-inch hitches and offers a weight capacity of 500-lbs and itself weighs 80-lbs. If your 2-inch hitch and vehicle share a tongue weight rating of 500-lbs, for example, then this carrier would give you a maximum wheelchair weight capacity of 420-lbs (500 - 80 = 420-lbs load capacity). Keep in mind that the heavier the carrier is the less hitch capacity remains for your loaded wheelchair.

Your vehicle owner's manual and your hitch's safety sticker will indicate their tongue weight capacities. If you wish to advise the year/make/model/version of your vehicle, your hitch's size and weight rating and the weight of your wheelchair I will be glad to research further and recommend a compatible carrier.

You need to check your measurements, the # FHG77ZR is 30 X 50 with interior dimensions 48" long x 28" wide x 5" deep. This would be too short for your length of 54 inches.

Please let me know if you need an alternative method of carrying your medichair.
