Brake Controller And Wiring For 1997 Chevrolet Sierra Pickup

Question:

I have a 1997 GMC Sierra PU and need a Trailer Brake Cotroller - Yours start at 1999. I would like to have a Proportional Brake Controllerinch unit. I also need the Tail wiring connector to accept the trailer plug - do you have a model that will work?

The brake controller I recommend for your 1997 GMC Sierra is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is our most popular controller because it is so easy to install and operate.

If you have a 4-way connector at the rear of your truck you will need part # ETBC7. This will connect to the 4-way connector and with some additional wiring, give you a 4-way and a 7-way connector. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to install an ETBC7, and also a helpful article that shows how to install a brake controller.

If you do not have a 4-way connector on the back of your pickup, I recommend the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118315. This simply plugs into the existing wiring on your truck and requires not cutting or splicing for installation.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the connections and helps prevent corrosion.
