In order to use a weight distribution system on your FJ Cruiser its hitch will have to specifically be rated for use with such systems. This will be indicated on its safety/warning sticker. All three of the hitches we offer for your FJ can be seen on the link provided and all are rated for use with weight distribution which gives them a maximum gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 6000-lbs.

I was able to verify the 5000-lb maximum tow rating for your FJ Cruiser. This 5000-lb vehicle limit is the overall system's capacity and cannot be exceeded.

Selecting a weight distribution system requires that you measure the trailer's fully-loaded ready-to-tow tongue weight via one of the methods outlined in the linked article. Dry weight is not enough. You need to measure the tongue weight with water and propane tanks filled, supplies and gear loaded, and add in the weight of anything in the FJ that sits behind the rear axle, such as a loaded cooler or generator. Your actual measured tongue weight should fall into the middle of the operating range of the system you select. Once you know this total effective tongue weight you can use the link provided to select a system. Your existing sway-control kit can be moved to the weight distribution mount and you might consider4 adding a second unit since your trailer is sizeable.

You can use the filters in the left margin to narrow the results based on your tongue weight and type of trailer brakes.

For reference the linked article on weight distribution will give you complete background on these systems.
