The Best Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2010 Subaru Forester

Question:

Just bought a 2010 Forrester without a trailer hitch. Should I buy a 2inch system for the added strength for a 4 bike rack?

I do recommend going with a 2 inch trailer hitch for your 2010 Subaru Forester. A 2 inch trailer hitch is not only stronger with a higher capacity but it also will afford you more options for accessories such as bike racks and cargo carriers.

For a 2 inch hitch I recommend Draw-Tite # 75650. With it you will not have to use a stabilization strap for your bike rack like you would with the comparable Curt hitch. I have included a link to the right to a video showing installation of this hitch for you.

For a 4-bike rack, if you do not already have one, I recommend the Thule Hitching Post Pro, # TH934XTR. This rack is a good value. It comes with anti-sway cradles, it can tilt, and the arms can fold down.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wife's bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my son's bike at all. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
