Towing a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Behind an RV
Question:
The instruction sheet shows a breakaway switch and either a 4 pin or 6 pin connector. are thiese included with the parts package? I can see the pictures but the parts are not number in accordance with the Installation Insturctions so I have no idea if all the parts are there that I will need to do the install. I dont want to get started and not be able to finish due to a missing or not- included part.

The images of the parts you mentioned are there to show you where they would install but they are not included. If you look at the parts list you will notice that they are not included. That is a bit confusing though. The reason they are not included is because there is no way to tell what a given person might need for wiring and if they are even using a supplemental braking system that has a breakaway system, if they are using one at all.
Demco base plates # DM9519308 are designed for the Trailhawk models of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. For a compatible tow bar I recommend the Commander II, # DM9511012, which has a 6,000 pound capacity and includes safety cables.
For lighting you can use the diode kit # RM-154. I have included a link to a video showing how it installs. You can use electrical cord # HM47046 but you would need to cut off the 4-Way flat end on the diode kit harness and wire in the wires to the 4-Way round receptacle included with the cord.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the Jeep brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Be sure to consult your Jeep owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
If your Cherokee has 4 wheel drive or the Active Drive II system, to maintain the vehicle's stable steering while being flat towed you will want to install the Mopar accessory kit 68321424AB, available from your Jeep dealer. This kit will prevent the Cherokee's steering from shaking while being flat towed.
