Wiring In a New Trailer Side 5-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
Hi the blue wire for the solenoid goes directly into the old plug. Should I just attached the wires according to the color and placement into the new plug? The video shows a separate connection for the blue wire hence my confusion.

Wiring by color can prove to be a bad idea since there technically isn't a standard for wire function and color.
On Hopkins trailer side 5-Way, the white wire is the ground, brown is for running lights, yellow is left turn/brake lights, green is right turn/brake lights, and blue goes to the reverse lockout solenoid like you said.
To determine the functions of the wires on the trailer you could either trace each one back to see where each goes. Or you could apply 12 volts of power to each wire and see what comes on.
