Can a Slider Hitch Be Used in a Truck with a 5 foot 7 inch Truck Bed

Question:

Hi I have a Dodge Ram 5ft 7 in bed and have borrowed a Thor 5th wheel Trailer while waiting for mine to come over to the UK The Thor has a fixed pin box so has no Cab clearance so the dealer has fitted a Curt 16 slider Into the bed is this safe to use Thanks Steve

I doubt it, anything shorter than a 6 foot bed a slider hitch won't give the clearance and most likely when slid back would put the pin box of the trailer in contact with the tailgate.

The only solution we have for trucks with a bed as short as yours is to go with a Sidewinder replacement pin box.

You would need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have know in order to pick out the correct one.

There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.

If you cannot find the number you can use the measurements of the bolt holes of the pin box to determine which one you have. I attached an FAQ on how to do this for you to check out also.

Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.
