What Should the Air Pressure be in a 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler

Question:

I have a 2013 Arctic Fox fifth wheel which came witha 5 AB-E510-710 Airborne pix box. We took the unit to Alaska last year and drove 7000 miles without any problem, the hitch worked great! . This year we drove about 250 miles to a lake in Idaho pulling a boat behind the fifth wheel. Again it worked great, didnt hardly know I was pulling anything with no chucking going on. After 2 weeks at the lake we drove back home and noticed right away it started chucking and did this all the way home. I checked the air pressure in the bladder when I got home and it read 11.5 lbs. I believe I asked the dealer whom I had bought it from about the air pressure and I thought they said about 8 lbs, I never checked it when I bought it so have no idea what the pressure was in the bladder when we drove away from the dealer. The trailer weighs 10200 lbs empty and the boat and trailer weights about 3300 lbs. I very rarely pull the boat behind the fifth wheel and when I do its only 2 or 3 hundred miles. What air pressure should I be using in the bladder?

You will want the air pressure in the air bag that is inside of the 5th Airborne pin b ox to be 80 to 100 psi to start. Do not exceed 120 psi.

At 11.5 pounds per square inch the air bag would not be doing its job. You may have a leak somewhere. To determine if there is a leak and where you will need to pour some soapy water on the valves and the air bag itself. If it starts to bubble then you know there is a leak in that location.

You could replace the lines using # 58382. The valve on the air bag is just a Schrader valve that you could pick up at a hardware store. But the air bag, if it is leaking, would be a special order item.

I have included a link to the instructions for pin box # 5AB-E510-710 and a link to our help article on 5th Airborne pin boxes for you.
