Parts Needed to Convert a Vehicle with a 4-Way to a 7-Way to Install a RF Prodigy Brake Controller
Question:
Team: I purchased wiring harness for 2006 VW Touareg that plugs into existing tail light sockets with hot lead to battery. This went well and I now have the 4 pole connector routed to the rear of the car and is working fine. My ultimate goal, however, was to convert this 4pin lead to a 7pin using C57674 to run Tekonsha Prodigy RF. The question I have is how to properly tie Blue and Black wires coming from C57674 to power coming from 4pin connector in car. Should I simply tie them all together to the hot coming from the battery and increase the fuse size from 15a to 40a? The reason I went with the RF technology was because the wiring system on this car is a nightmare and it is far too smart to try to fool it using a traditional wired brake controller. My issue seems simple enough, but when you consider that I dont want to keep the 4pin plugged in all the time It will only be used occasionally, the matter becomes more complicated. I was thinking about tying the Blue and the Black wire from C57674 to the Brown power wire on the 4pin side so that the brake controller and the battery on my Travel Trailer will always have power when hooked up. Your help is appreciated. Thank you!

To install the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # TK94FR in your 2006 Volkswagen Touareg you are somewhat on the right track. Having a 4-way converted to a 7-way with the Curt Harness part # C57674 is the correct next step. However, after that you would just need to run the black wire from this connector through a 40 amp circuit breaker like part # PK54540 to the positive side of your battery is all you would need to do as far as the 7-way conversion is needed.
Running the black wire from the 7-way to your running light circuit of your 4-way would overdraw the circuit most likely and would cause the brake controller to only function with the headlights on.
The blue wire does not need to be run so it can be tied up out of the way. I attached an install video for this controller for you to check out as well.
