Using Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System to Replace Torsion Axle on 1985 StarCraft Tent Trailer

Question:

I have a 1985 StarCraft tent trailer. It has an unusual offset axle. The axle broke and I am looking for a replacement. I dont see the exact part on your web site, but I am wondering if one of the Dexter Axle-less trailer suspension systems will work. How do I determine if one of them would work for my trailer and if so, which one would be the right choice? Thanks

It sounds like your camper uses a torsion axle. The Timbren axle-less suspension system very well might be a great solution for you. In order to determine which particular part number you need, I'll need to know your axle capacity. This information might be found on the axle itself or on the trailer VIN plate. If not, I can figure it out if you'd reply with the reference numbers from your inner and outer wheel bearings. I'd also need to know if your current axle has brakes and what the bolt pattern of your wheels is.

The Timbren Axle-Less suspension system may require additional support on your trailer. If your trailer does not have a crossmember above the spot where you want to install the Timbren system, you may need to reinforce the frame. You can accomplish this three ways. First, you can retrofit the trailer with a crossmember. Second, you can build out the trailer frame. Third, you can use standard, 2-inch steel tubing to connect the 2 Timbren suspensions together using the built-in square hole on each unit.
