Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan Behind a Motor Home
Question:
How easy or difficult is it to install the BX3823? And what electrical wires and connectors needed? Thanks

Blue Ox gives base plates # BX3823 an installation rating of 3. The installation rating is a rough measure of the time required for baseplate or bracket installation by a trained installer. These numbers can be used as rough suggested installation time by a trained installer. The first installation of a particular baseplate, and installation by untrained individuals will likely increase installation time substantially.
It is strongly recommended to have them professionally installed. I have linked the installation instructions to the right for you so that you can see what is involved in an installation on your 2010 Volkswagen Jetta.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the Jetta brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
In order for the braking system to work properly you will also need stop light switch kit # RM-751434 and 12 volt outlet kit # RM-9332.
Be sure to consult your Jetta owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
In addition to the base plates you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For a compatible tow bar that comes with safety cables you can use the Alpha, # BX7380.
For lighting you can use a simple magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. Or if you want a more permanent solution you can use the 6 diode kit # 154-792-118158.
