Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Nissan Frontier Pulling 19 Ft Travel Trailer
Question:
I pull a 19ft 3,220lb travel trailer with a 3.6v6 nissan frontier. I really dont have an issue but would like to pull the trailer more soundly. I read up on your weight distribution systems and not sure if this will make my ride smoother/safer. also it states you cannot back up when this system is in place. Please advise.

You will likely benefit from a weight-distribution system if:
•Your trailer weight (GTW) is more than 50 percent of your vehicle's weight (GVWR)
•The rear of your tow vehicle sags when the trailer is hooked up
•You experience trailer sway
•Your tow vehicle headlights point upward
•You find it difficult to steer or stop your rig
•You want to tow to the highest capacity allowed by your vehicle's trailer hitch setup
Pro Series does not recommend that you back up your trailer while using the Pro Series Weight Distribution System with Friction Sway Control, # PS49582 and # 83660. The reason behind this is that there is a very good possibility that the sway control system will bind up while backing up the trailer and this could damage your system. There is a quick and easy fix though. When you need to back up the trailer, you will need to switch the sway control lever to the off position, pull two clips, remove the friction sway control bar, and now you are ready to back up.
We do offer numerous weight distribution systems, one being the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System with Sway Control, # RP66558, that will allow you to back up with all components still connected. Please keep in mind that although you can backup, if you have to make an extreme turn when backing up, where the trailer is almost jackknifed, you will want to remove the spring bars to prevent damage.
You also need a hitch ball to go with the Steadi-Flex. Use # 63845 for a 2 inch ball or # 63847 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.
I have attached an article that goes over common weight distribution and sway control questions.
