What to Do if the Prodigy RF Brake Controller Will not Pair with a 2014 BMW X5
Question:
I will be installing the wireless brake controller on a BMW X5. I have three questions: 1. Do I need to order any extra cables or connectors in order to connect the break controller to the trailer and tow vehicle? The tow has a 7-pin connector installed. 2. Im not clear on how to use a domestic vehicle to activate the system. Everything Ive read seems to indicate that I wont be able to sync the system using my BMW X5. Does the domestic vehicle have to have a trailer plug in order to perform the synch? 3. Is the wireless controller as effective as a hard wire controller that BMW would install at the dealership?

If your 2014 BMW X5 has a 7-Way trailer connector already then you will not need any additional parts.
You may not have to have a second vehicle in order to pair the Prodigy RF # TK94FR. It may pair just fine on its own. It is possible that if you do have a pairing problem you could use electrical tape to tape off the pin in the 5 oclock position on the back of the RF unit and that might work for you.
If it doesn't then it is possible that you will need an adapter, # 20142, especially if the trailer has LED lights.
And if that doesn't work, you would park the BMW next to a different vehicle that has a functioning 7-Way and go through the installation/pairing instructions with that vehicle then just move the handheld unit to the BMW.
The RF is a proportional controller like the P2, # 90885. They are very effective controllers and I would bet that they are on par if not better than what the BMW dealer offers. But with that said, I do not know for sure what BMW offers. What I do know is that Tekonsha makes the best brake controllers that we carry.
