Things to Consider when Buying a Winter Tire for a 2012 Honda CRV

Question:

Hi, can I use the tire size 235 70 R16 on 2012 Honda CRV 16 inch rim for my 2010 Honda CRV for a set of winter tire. And with the TPMS I have to reprogram? How do I know the TPMS is in good condition? Thanks for help

Expert Reply:

It depends on the clearances you have in your wheel well, the 235/70R16 will be 20 mm wider and little bit taller.

However, for snow driving you actually want to go with a skinnier tire as it will cut through the snow better and give you better traction. If there is a smaller size available in a winter tire for your vehicle I would recommend that over the wider one.

Any time you change the overall diameter of a tire you will need to reprogram the computer of the vehicle so that the speedometer is accurate. Otherwise your vehicle mileage won't be correct and it would be harder to know if you are exceeding the speed limit.
