Recommendations to Reduce Chucking with a 2006 GMC 2500 Towing a 2015 Flagstaff 27 ft 5th Wheel

Question:

We have a 2015 Flagstaff 27 ft 5th wheel with an approx. loaded wt. of 8000 lbs.towed by a 06 GMC 2500 2WD. The problem towing is the fore to aft chucking with some vertical harshness on major bumps/pot holes. The question is will either the MorRyde or the Reese Airborne be good choices for this trailer weight and will the Reese pin box help more with both the chucking and vertical issues?

A 5th Airborne Pin Box with Sidewinder would help quite a bit with the vertical chucking, but for fore and aft your best solution would be to upgrade your fifth wheel trailer hitch to one that has a jaw that makes better contact with the king pin as that is where most of that type of chucking comes from.

5th Airbornes are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have know in order to pick out the correct one.

There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.

Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct 5th Airborne to get based on which pin box you have.

The Reese 5th Wheel Hitch part # RP30033 would be an excellent choice for a hitch since it has a jaw that makes 360 degrees of contact with the king pin.
