How to Determine the Correct Trailer Ball Mount and Measuring For Rise and/or Drop

Question:

I do not own a trailer, but have had to borrow on ocassionally. How do I choose a mount and ball size? Are there standard coupler heights and ball sizes? example: I had to borrow a trailer to take Motorcycle to dealer, probably a class 3 hitch

Most light duty trailers have a 17 inch coupler height, give or take an inch. Using the ballmount help page you were looking at, measure your hitch height on your truck and select a ball mount with the proper rise or drop to get you to 17 inches.

The hitch on my Escape is 19 inches from the ground to the inside top edge of the hitch. So to get to 17 inches I would use a 2 inch drop ball mount like part # C45010 or part # C74WR or even the # WSFH2-2 with a built-in scale.

I have included a link below to all of our Class III rated ball mounts.
